Add a popup or banner

Put a sign-up popup or a bar across the top of your website to grow your email list or point people to an offer.

A pop-up appears in front of the page, which is great for a free guide or a waitlist. A banner is a bar across the top of every page with a short line and a button. You build both in Marketing > Forms.

Steps

  1. Open Marketing > Forms and stay on the Sign-up forms tab.
  2. Press Create a form.
  3. Choose Pop-up or Banner.
  4. What will visitors see? Write the headline (or the banner text), a supporting line and the button label. For a banner, choose what the button does: Open a sign-up right on the page, or Go to a page. A page on your site starts with /, like /vault. A link elsewhere starts with https://.
  5. Where and when should it appear? For a pop-up, pick when it opens (after a few seconds, or when someone is about to leave) and how often someone sees it (once per visit, once every 7 days, or until they sign up). Add start and end dates if it is a limited offer.
  6. What happens after someone signs up? Add a tag to organize these contacts, pick automated emails to send, and choose a thank you message or a page to send them to.
  7. Ready to publish? Colibri checks everything. Press Publish form.

Good to know

  • Leave the end date empty and it keeps showing until you switch it off.
  • Everyone who signs up lands in People > Contacts with your tag, marked as agreeing to receive emails.
  • A banner that goes to a page doesn’t sign anyone up, so it needs no tag or emails.
  • Visitors can close a banner for their visit, and it stops showing to someone who signed up through it.
  • Each form on the list has an on and off switch, plus Duplicate and Delete.
  • The Website > Popups & banners tab points here now. Once you have a pop-up in Forms, that one is the pop-up your site follows.
  • To send people a free guide, pick an email series whose first email delivers it. See Build a funnel.
  • More form types (inline, full page, link in bio, countdown and more) are covered in Make a form.
