Send email from your own domain

Connect a domain you own so your newsletters, campaigns and funnel emails go out as you and land in inboxes.

Before ColibriOS sends a newsletter, campaign or funnel email, it needs a domain you own to send from. This is the first thing to set up under Email, and it only takes a few minutes plus a short wait.

Steps

  1. Open Marketing > Email.
  2. Find the Send from your own domain card. Type your domain in Your domain (for example, yourbusiness.com) and press Set up.
  3. The card now says Waiting for DNS and shows a table of records, each with a Type, Name / Host and Value.
  4. In a new tab, sign in where you bought your domain and open its DNS settings. Add each record from the table exactly as shown. Use the copy button beside each value so nothing gets mistyped.
  5. Back in ColibriOS, press Verify. When it works, the card says Verified with your sending address.
  6. If a box called One more record: count opens and clicks appears, add that record the same way, then press Check again.
  7. Under Addresses you send from, type the part before the @ (like hello or your first name) in Address, add a Name shown to recipients if you like, and press Add. Press Use for everyday email on the one your confirmations, receipts and reminders should use.

Good to know

  • Your emails go out from a “send.” part of your domain, like hello@send.yourbusiness.com. The records only touch that part, so your website and your existing email keep working as they are.
  • It doesn’t have to be the domain your website uses. Any domain you own works.
  • DNS usually updates within minutes, but it can take longer. If Verify says not yet, wait a little and press it again.
  • Until your domain is verified, newsletters, campaigns and funnel emails don’t go out. Booking confirmations, receipts and sign-in codes still send.
  • Opens and clicks are only counted after the tracking record (the “One more record” box) verifies, and only for email sent after that. See Read your email stats.
  • After you verify, a Will my emails reach the inbox? checklist appears. If it says a DMARC record is missing, it gives you the exact record to add.
  • Each newsletter or campaign can pick a different address from its From box.
  • If you bought your domain inside ColibriOS, these records are usually added for you. Open Marketing > Email to check it says Verified. See Buy a domain inside ColibriOS.
