Move a course over from another platform

Bring a folder of course videos into ColibriOS at once, one lesson per video, in the right order.

Already teaching a course somewhere else? You don’t have to add each video by hand. Add many videos turns a folder of videos into lessons in one go, in order, named from the file names.

Steps

  1. Download your course videos from the old platform into a folder on your computer, one folder per module. Number the files in the order you teach them (01, 02, 03 and so on).
  2. In ColibriOS, open Selling > Courses and create the course with New course (or open one you already have).
  3. Under Curriculum, click Add module for each section of the course.
  4. On a module, click Add many videos.
  5. Open your folder and select all the videos at once.
  6. Check the list. ColibriOS shows every lesson it will add, in order, and every file it will skip, with the reason.
  7. Click Add lessons (the button shows how many). Leave the window open until the uploads finish.
  8. Repeat for each module.

How files become lessons

  • Files go in number order, so 2 comes before 10.
  • The lesson name comes from the file name, with the leading number taken off. “03 - Breath of Fire.mp4” becomes “Breath of Fire”.
  • New lessons are added after any lessons already in the module.
  • If one file won’t upload, the rest still go in, and you’re told which one failed.

Good to know

  • ColibriOS takes MP4, MOV and WebM videos, up to 200 MB each. An AVI, MKV or WMV file is listed with a note to convert it first.
  • Each new lesson is a video lesson. Open it afterward to add a description, a thumbnail or worksheet files.
  • Videos on YouTube or Vimeo can stay there. Add a Video lesson with Add lesson and paste the link instead.
  • Writing and PDF lessons are added one at a time with Add lesson.
  • Moving several courses? Import CSV on the Courses page creates them from a spreadsheet with a title, price and description for each. Then add the videos as above.
