Moderation, guidelines and announcements

Keep your community kind: set guidelines, hide or delete posts, handle reports, mute members, and send announcements.

Everything for looking after your community is on People > Community: your guidelines, the board, reported posts, members and announcements.

Set community guidelines

  1. In the Community space card, write your Community guidelines. For example: “Be kind. What’s shared here stays here. No selling.”
  2. Press Save guidelines.

Members must read and agree once before they can post, including people who already joined. Leave the box empty and there’s no gate at all.

Look after the board

On the Community board card, each post has these buttons (hover over an icon to see its name):

  • Pin to top: keeps it first in the feed.
  • Highlight: marks it as a host pick.
  • Reply: answer as yourself.
  • Hide from members: takes it off members’ screens but keeps it on yours. Press Show to members again to bring it back.
  • Delete permanently: removes the post and its replies for good.

Handle reports

Members can report a post. When they do, a Reported posts card appears on the page. For each one, choose Dismiss, Hide or Delete. Reporting is anonymous to other members.

Mute or remove a member

On the Members card:

  • Mute: they can still read, but can’t post. Unmute undoes it.
  • Remove: they can no longer get in. Restore lets them back.

Send an announcement

An announcement is the one post that reaches people who aren’t visiting.

  1. On the Announcement card, add a Subject (optional) and write your Announcement.
  2. Press Add photo or video if you want (up to 6).
  3. Press Post and email. The button shows how many members it will reach.
  4. Confirm. It posts to Announcements and emails every member who hasn’t turned announcement emails off.

Good to know

  • There is no unsend for an announcement. Read it twice.
  • Members reply to announcements in the community, not by email.
  • Photos in an announcement go out in the email too. Photos must be under 15 MB, videos under 250 MB.
  • Need a pause? Switch the Discussion board to paused in the Community space card, and open it again when you’re ready.
  • Muting is the gentle first step. Removing is for when someone shouldn’t be there at all.
